How to Make a Homemade Glass Bong with Simple Materials

If you enjoy smoking herb or tobacco, you might want to try making your own glass bong at home. A glass bong is a device that filters the smoke through water, resulting in a smoother and cooler hit. Glass bongs are also more durable and easier to clean than plastic ones. Plus, making your own glass bong can be a fun and creative project that will save you some money and impress your friends.

In this blog post, we will show you how to make a homemade glass bong with simple materials that you can find at your local hardware store or online. You will need:

  • A glass bottle with a long neck and a wide base
  • A 3/4″ diamond drill bit
  • A battery-powered drill
  • A rubber grommet with an outside diameter of 31/32″, an inner diameter of 1/2″, and a 3/4″ groove
  • A 14mm glass downstem and bowl
  • A propane torch
  • A piece of glass tubing
  • Some water
  • Some herb or tobacco of your choice

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Clean the bottle. Empty the bottle and wash it out with warm water. Remove any plastic or labels that might be on the bottle. You want the bottle to be as clean and smooth as possible.
  2. Mark a spot to drill. Find a spot on the bottle where the surface is relatively flat, somewhere on the upper curve of the body. This is where you will insert the downstem. Place the grommet there and use it to trace a circle with a sharpie. This will be your guide for drilling.
  3. Prepare your tools. Attach the diamond drill bit to your drill. Make sure you use a battery-powered drill, as you will be running water over the drilling area. You should also wear safety goggles to protect your eyes from any flying glass shards.
  4. Drill the hole for the downstem. To keep the glass cool and prevent it from cracking, turn on the faucet and hold the bottle under a steady stream of water. You want more than just a trickle but not so much that you can’t see what you’re doing. Hold the bottle firmly and start drilling slowly at the marked spot. Set your drill to 3/4 of its max speed and gently push it against the glass. Don’t apply too much pressure or force, as this can cause the glass to break. Let the drill do the work for you. It may take some time, but eventually you will see a hole forming in the glass. Stop drilling when the hole is big enough for the grommet to fit snugly.
  5. Insert the grommet and the downstem. Dry off the bottle and the hole with a towel. Push the grommet into the hole until it sits flush with the bottle. Then, insert the downstem through the grommet until it reaches the bottom of the bottle. The bowl should be angled upward on the outside of the bottle. Make sure the downstem is secure and not wobbly.
  6. Cut the glass tubing to make the mouthpiece. The length of the glass tubing will depend on how big you want your bong to be. You can use a ruler or a tape measure to decide how long you want it to be. Then, use a marker to mark where you want to cut it. You can use a glass cutter or a hacksaw to cut through the glass tubing, but be careful not to hurt yourself or damage the tubing.
  7. Heat and bend the glass tubing. To make the mouthpiece more comfortable and ergonomic, you can bend it slightly at an angle. To do this, you will need to heat up one end of the glass tubing with a propane torch until it becomes soft and pliable. Then, use some pliers or tongs to carefully bend it to your desired shape. Don’t touch the hot glass with your bare hands, as it can burn you badly. Let it cool down completely before handling it.
  8. Attach the mouthpiece to the bottle. To attach the mouthpiece to the bottle, you will need to drill another hole in the neck of the bottle, just below where it starts to curve inward. This hole should be the same size as the diameter of the glass tubing. Follow the same steps as before to drill the hole, using water to cool the glass and a grommet to seal it. Then, push the mouthpiece through the grommet until it is firmly attached to the bottle.

Congratulations, you have just made your own homemade glass bong! To use it, fill the bottle with water until it covers the end of the downstem. Then, pack some herb or tobacco into the bowl and light it up. Cover the hole in the neck of the bottle with your thumb and inhale through the mouthpiece. When you’re ready to take a hit, release your thumb and inhale the smoke that has accumulated in the bottle. Enjoy!
