How to Clean a Bong with Baking Soda

If you enjoy smoking herb or tobacco from a bong, you know how important it is to keep your piece clean and fresh. A dirty bong can ruin the taste of your smoke, harbor bacteria and mold, and look unsightly. Fortunately, you don’t need to buy expensive or harsh chemicals to clean your bong. You can use a simple and natural ingredient that you probably have in your kitchen: baking soda.

Baking soda is a great cleaner for bongs because it is abrasive, which helps to scrub off the sticky resin and tar that accumulates in the chamber, the bowl, and the downstem. It is also alkaline, which helps to neutralize the acidic and smelly bong water. Baking soda is also cheap, eco-friendly, and easy to find.

In this blog post, we will show you how to clean a bong with baking soda in four easy steps. You will need the following supplies:

  • A dirty bong
  • Baking soda
  • Water
  • A kettle or a pot
  • A sink or a basin
  • A plastic bag or a container
  • A long cleaning brush or a pipe cleaner
  • Some paper towels or a cloth

Step 1: Disassemble and Rinse Your Bong

The first step is to take apart your bong and rinse it with warm water. Remove the bowl and the downstem from the main chamber and place them in a plastic bag or a container. Pour out the old bong water and any leftover herb or tobacco from the chamber. Rinse the chamber, the bowl, and the downstem with warm water to remove any loose particles and debris. If your bong is very dirty, you can soak it in warm water with a squirt of dish soap for an hour or two before rinsing.

Step 2: Add Baking Soda and Hot Water to Your Bong

The next step is to add baking soda and hot water to your bong. Warm some water in a kettle or a pot until it boils. Be careful not to burn yourself with the hot water. Add a few tablespoons of baking soda to the mouthpiece of your bong and shake it around to distribute it evenly inside the chamber. Do the same for the bowl and the downstem in the plastic bag or container. Then, carefully pour the hot water into the chamber of your bong until it is half full. Pour some hot water into the plastic bag or container as well.

Step 3: Shake and Wait

The third step is to shake your bong and wait for the baking soda and hot water to work their magic. Cover the holes of your bong with your hands, fingers, or thumbs and shake it vigorously for about five minutes. You will see bubbles forming as the baking soda reacts with the hot water and loosens the resin and tar from the walls of your bong. Shake the plastic bag or container with the bowl and downstem as well. Then, let your bong and its parts soak in the baking soda solution for another hour or two, or overnight if they are very dirty.

Step 4: Rinse and Dry Your Bong

The final step is to rinse and dry your bong. Empty the baking soda solution from your bong and the plastic bag or container into a sink or a basin. Rinse your bong and its parts thoroughly with clean water until no traces of baking soda remain. Use a long cleaning brush or a pipe cleaner to scrub any stubborn spots or stains that are still visible. Then, wipe your bong and its parts dry with some paper towels or a cloth.

Congratulations! You have successfully cleaned your bong with baking soda. Your bong should look shiny, smell fresh, and taste better than ever. Enjoy your next smoking session with your clean bong!
