How to Make Your Own Glass Bong from Scratch or Using Recycled Materials

If you are looking for a creative and fun way to enjoy your favorite herb or tobacco, you might want to try making your own glass bong. A glass bong is a device that filters and cools the smoke from burning herb or tobacco through water, resulting in a smoother and more flavorful experience. Glass bongs are also more durable, easier to clean, and more aesthetically pleasing than plastic or metal ones.

There are two ways to make your own glass bong: from scratch or using recycled materials. In this blog post, we will show you how to do both methods step by step. You will need some basic tools and materials, as well as some safety precautions. Let’s get started!

How to Make a Glass Bong from Scratch

To make a glass bong from scratch, you will need the following materials:

  • A piece of glass tubing (about 10-15 inches long and 1/2 inch in diameter)
  • A glass bottle (preferably with a long neck and a wide base)
  • A propane torch
  • A working surface (such as a wooden board or a metal tray)
  • A grommet or cork (with an outer diameter of 31/32 inch, an inner diameter of 1/2 inch, and a groove of 3/4 inch)
  • A stem or tube (made of metal or glass, about 4-6 inches long and 1/4 inch in diameter)
  • A bowl (made of metal or glass, with a 14mm joint size)

You will also need the following tools:

  • A drill
  • A 3/4 inch diamond drill bit
  • A pair of pliers
  • A pair of gloves
  • A pair of safety goggles
  • A bucket of water

Once you have gathered all the materials and tools, follow these steps to make your glass bong from scratch:

  1. Clean the bottle and the glass tubing with warm water and soap. Rinse them well and dry them with a towel.
  2. Mark a spot on the bottle where you want to drill the hole for the stem. The spot should be on the upper curve of the body, where the surface is relatively flat. Use the grommet or cork as a guide and trace a circle around it with a sharpie.
  3. Attach the diamond drill bit to your drill and set it to 3/4 of its max speed. Put on your gloves and goggles for safety.
  4. Hold the bottle under running water in the sink. The water should cover the spot where you want to drill. This will keep the glass cool and prevent it from cracking.
  5. Start drilling slowly and gently on the marked spot. Apply steady pressure but do not push too hard. You will hear a grinding sound as the drill bit cuts through the glass. Keep drilling until you reach the other side of the bottle.
  6. Remove the drill bit and rinse the bottle with water. You should have a clean hole on the bottle that fits the grommet or cork snugly.
  7. Insert the grommet or cork into the hole. You may need to use some pliers to push it in. Make sure it is secure and does not leak.
  8. Insert the stem or tube into the grommet or cork. The stem or tube should stick out about 2-3 inches from the bottle.
  9. Add the bowl to the end of the stem or tube. You may need to twist it slightly to make it fit.
  10. Fill the bottle with water until it covers about half of the stem or tube.
  11. Test your bong by lighting some herb or tobacco in the bowl and inhaling from the mouthpiece of the bottle. You should see bubbles forming in the water as you draw smoke through it.

How to Make a Glass Bong Using Recycled Materials

If you don’t have access to glass tubing or a propane torch, you can still make your own glass bong using recycled materials. You will need the following materials:

  • A glass bottle (preferably with a long neck and a wide base)
  • A pen (with a metal tip and a removable ink cartridge)
  • A socket (with a 1/4 inch drive size)
  • A lighter
  • A piece of tape

You will also need the following tools:

  • A drill
  • A 3/4 inch diamond drill bit
  • A pair of pliers
  • A pair of gloves
  • A pair of safety goggles
  • A bucket of water

Once you have gathered all the materials and tools, follow these steps to make your glass bong using recycled materials:

  1. Clean the bottle and the pen with warm water and soap. Rinse them well and dry them with a towel.
  2. Mark a spot on the bottle where you want to drill the hole for the stem. The spot should be on the upper curve of the body, where the surface is relatively flat. Use the socket as a guide and trace a circle around it with a sharpie.
You should have a clean hole on the bottle that fits the socket snugly.
  7. Insert the socket into the hole. You may need to use some pliers to push it in. Make sure it is secure and does not leak.
  8. Remove the ink cartridge from the pen and discard it. You should have a hollow tube with a metal tip.
  9. Insert the metal tip of the pen into the socket. The pen should stick out about 2-3 inches from the bottle.
  10. Add some tape around the joint where the pen meets the socket. This will prevent air from escaping and make your bong more efficient.
  11. Fill the bottle with water until it covers about half of the pen.
  12. Test your bong by lighting some herb or tobacco in the socket and inhaling from the mouthpiece of the bottle. You should see bubbles forming in the water as you draw smoke through it.

Congratulations! You have just made your own glass bong using either scratch or recycled materials. Enjoy your homemade device and remember to clean it regularly to keep it in good condition. Happy smoking!
